My music tastes have continued to grow. Last summer I started new edm genres, which was an important point in my music career. Recently, I have began listening to non-edm, which is another equally important crossing point. I also started DJing recently, too, which has somewhat affected my listening habits. So, here we go. From the middle of summer to the beginning of winter break, I started off with some drum and bass, then moved on to breakcore. Then, due to playing Burnout 3 on the PS2, I downloaded a bunch of pop-rock/pop-punk albums from the soundtrack. Moving on, I started getting into downtempo and ambient. Then, I got home for winter break, and this was when my hard drive really started getting full. Over the course of 3 weeks or so, I downloaded 50 gigs of the top rated edm albums from the past few years, with genres including all flavors of techno, house, trip-hop, ambient, breakbeat, shoegaze and post-rock, idm, and dubstep. When I got back to school, the downloading slowed down due to bandwidth limitations, but I had still a lot of new material to listen to. I still do, actually...
Sometime in February, I discovered the Hype Machine (hypem.com), which allowed me to see what was popular in the blog world. Through it, I started listening to indie and mashups. And from then until now, I have been visiting the Hype Machine almost daily, and getting a taste of top40 songs before they get on the radio, enjoying ridiculous mashups, and of course, always expanding my musical tastes. Over the summer, I plan to dive deeper into indie, and possibly try some classical. Who knows.
